Drama as an EFCC advisor gave Yahaya Bello who was accused of a fraud trial as a ‘political case’

A light drama occurred in the Federal High Court, Abuja, on Thursday when the advisor to the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) Kemi Pinheiro (SAN), illustrates accusations of fraud that are preferred against former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, as “political cases.”

Pinheiro stated this during the argument about whether Bello’s advisor, Joseph Daudu (San), was able to cross the 4th prosecution witness (PW-4) shortly after the conclusion from the head of the evidence or waiting until Friday.

The commission charged a former governor for alleged fraud N110 billion.

He was charged with Umar Shuibu Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu, on charges of 16-calculation of violations of trust and money laundering.

While describing the importance of this case and the need to speed up the process, the EFCC advisor said the case was a trial from the former governor of a country, therefore, politics.

However, Daudu answered that the problem was not a political problem but the trial of the accusations bordering money laundering.

Pinheiro insisted that it was political and emphasized that he did not sue a bank official, but a political figure, “People who even aspire to fight for the presidency.”

“Politics? If that’s the problem, then those who handle political cases must be prepared to take over this problem,” said Judge Emeka Nwite.

Previously, the judge, in the verdict, rejected the application by EFCC to “check” the witness himself in the trial.

Judge Nwite stated that there was no provision in law that allowed the court to allow prosecutors to re -examine witnesses in the proposed way.

He postponed this case until Friday for further trials.
