Police on Friday arraigned a 37-year-old driver, Mohammed Hamza, at the Gwagwalada Magistrate’s Court in Abuja, for allegedly defrauding his client of N420,000.

He was charged with two counts of breach of trust and fraud.

He told the court that the plaintiff had entrusted the funds to the defendant.

“The money was deposited into the defendant’s Standing IBTC bank account to purchase five and a half sacks of peanuts to be delivered to the plaintiff around January.

“The defendant demanded money from the plaintiff, refused to buy the bag of nuts, and refused to answer his phone.

“He diverted the money for his personal needs without the complainant’s consent and fled to an unknown location.

“The accused was later tracked down and arrested while fleeing via Gwagwalada,” the prosecutor added.

This violation, according to him, violates Articles 312 and 322 of the Criminal Code.

However, the accused did not plead guilty to the charges.

Justice Olatunji Olaadunmoye granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with sureties in the same amount.

He adjourned the case until September 26 for hearing.
