The Department of State Services (DSS) in the State of Niger has expressed concern for the activities of the impostors who present themselves as journalists, warning that their dissemination of false news represents a growing threat to society.
The State Director of the DSS, Usman Ibrahim, issued the warning to Minna during a courtesy visit by the leadership of the Union of Journalists of Nigeria (Nuj), Niger’s State Council, led by its president, Abu Nmodu.
Ibrahim described journalists as “current partners” of the security service, noting that the responsible relationships played a crucial role in the safeguarding of the company and in the scope of the national interest.
However, he complained about the growing dissemination of false information by people masked by media professionals.

In his response, the president of Nuj Nmodu promised the readiness of the Union to work closely with the DSS in facing the threat of false news.
He said the Nuj in Niger recently established a verification committee to authenticate the professional state of journalists in the state, aimed at restoring credibility and discipline within the profession.
Nmodu praised the DSS for creating a supporting environment for journalists and ensured the trade union commitment agency against journalism focused on development.
He stressed that credible relationships remained fundamental to model the public discourse, even if he denounced the growing influence of the charlatans that feed the disinformation.
