Nigerian women, who brought glory to their country at the just-concluded Olympics in Paris, are ranked top in Africa.

Mali, Senegal, Mozambique and Cameroon complete the top five teams in Africa.

The latest rankings were released by the Federation of International Basketball Associations (FIBA) on Thursday.

Rena Wakama’s team moved up four places following their outstanding performance in Paris.

Ripples Nigeria recalls that D’Tigress recorded impressive wins against top-ranked opponents; Australia and Canada, before losing to eventual winners USA in the quarter-finals.

Before being eliminated, they made history as the first African team to reach the Olympic quarter-finals.

Nigerian women have now made history as they become the first African team (men or women) to break into the top 10.

Meanwhile, the USA maintained their position as the best team in the world, topping the rankings with Australia in second place.

France, China and Spain complete the top five rankings.
