Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, will face defending champions the US in the quarter-finals of the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The quarter-final pairings were determined after the group stage matches concluded on Sunday.
D’Tigress made history as the first African basketball team (men or women) to reach the Olympic quarter-finals, putting on a stellar performance in the group stage.
Led by Rena Wakama, the team achieved impressive wins against Australia and Canada.

Nigeria defeated Australia by 13 points, 75-62, in their Group B opener on Monday, July 29, marking their first Olympic victory in 20 years.
Although the Nigerian women’s team lost to France 75-54 in their second group game, they bounced back and beat Canada 79-70 on Sunday.
The US won all of their group games, finishing top of the standings with wins over Japan, Belgium, and Germany.
Nigeria are scheduled to face the nine-time Olympic gold medalists on Wednesday, August 7, at 9:30 p.m. Nigerian time.
