The former Super Eagles midfielder, Duke UDI, has extended his congratulations to the Flying Eagles after his qualification for the quarterfinal stage of the U20 Cup of Africa 2025.
The Flying Eagles secured a hard point in their last group B against Kenia in Cairo, a result that secured its progression to the elimination rounds.
The game also scored a significant milestone for Nigeria, since it was its 100th appearance in AFCon Affon’s story.
Speaking to Brila.net after the match, UDI praised the resistance of the team and urged the Nigerians to continue supporting the players while pointing to the World Cup qualification.
“Congratulations to the flying eagles and the technical team. They have gone well. They are still ongoing for the automatic world cup rating,” UDI said.
“What would have happened if we lost? Qualifying for the quarterfinals is enough. We need to boost the players, encourage and support them. I wish you all the best and I hope they qualify for the World Cup.”
The match against Kenya was a tense matter, with the East Africans twice the lead before Nigeria recovered both times.
Nigeria concluded the group stage in the second place with five points, after registering a victory and a draw in its two previous games.
Morocco assured first place in Group B with seven points after a 3 1 victory over Tunisia in the other group’s final match.
The Flying Eagles will face Senegal in the last eight. A victory in the next round and Nigeria ensures one of the four African spaces available in the 2025 FIFA U20 World Cup.
Nigeria is still one of the most successful teams in the history of U20 AFCon and will seek to add an eighth title to its illustrious record as the tournament progresses.
