● As Aliko Dangote Foundation distributes the host communities of Rice to Okpella
Edo State Governor, Senator Mondoy Okpebholo at the Weekend Flagged-Off The Distribution of 13,000 Bags of Rice Donated by the Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF) for the Economically Challenged in the State with an appeal to Well-means Nigerians to emulate the Patriotic Gestures of the Foremical Industrialist, Aliko Dangote In Collaborating With Government At all Levels to Fight Against Poverty and Hunger by Creating Job Opportunities Through Investments.
The enthusiastic governor who made the call to Benin, Edo State Capital expressed the appreciation of his government for the ADF saying that the gesture is in tandem with the policy of his best life administration for all through solid economic policies and the aggressive supply of infrastructure in the state.
The governor, represented by the deputy, the Hon. Dennis Idahosa said that the fight against poverty and hunger is a collective responsibility of all Nigerians, observing that through partnerships, the government will build a more resistant, safe and prosperous future for everyone.

He said: “I express my sincere gratitude to Alhaji Aliko Dangote and the Aliko Dangote Foundation for this remarkable act of generosity and compassion. This donation is a testimony of the Foundation’s commitment to alleviate poverty and promote food safety, as well as support the most vulnerable members of society.
“I understand that the initiative is to distribute a million rice bags at 774 areas of the local government across the country. This move is a laudable event. The government of the Edo state has aligned with the renewed agenda of the hope of President Tinubu, which gives priority to food safety for the nation.
“We launched the Back To Farm project, which aims to cultivate 3,000 hectares of land in the three senatorial districts of the Edo state. This effort underlines the commitment of our administration in achieving food enough and improve agricultural productivity throughout the state.
This ADF donation is therefore timely as it will complete our efforts to reduce hunger in the earth and it is on this note that I am using this opportunity to ask the Nigerians well intentioned to emulate the generosity of Aliko Dangote as a fight against poverty and hunger is a collective responsibility and together through partners like this, we will build a more resilient future for all.
“When we start the distribution of rice to vulnerable in the whole state, I assure you that the process will be transparent, fair and will be carried out with the utmost integrity. We assure these articles reach the vulnerable and the communities for which they are intended,” he added.
A Aliko Dangote Foundation officer, who transmitted the message of goodwill of Alhaji Dangote to the Governor, Openeoluwa Olajide explained that the business magnate had tried to reach the Nigerians challenged economically and through its foundation, Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF) has started a national food intervention program to offer rescue food.
“This Year, The Africa’s Leading Philanthropist Through the ADF Set Aside N16billion to Test 1,000,000 Bags of Rice (10kg) Sourced Locally to One Million Nigerians Across the 774 Local Governments in the Federation. The Food Relief Initiative Aligs with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) of Zero Hunger, One That Has Been Adopted and Strongly Upheld by the Foundation, highlighting as Commitment to fight food insecurity in Nigeria.
“The initiative has been reported in Lagos, Kano and some other states and now the turning point of Edo and 13,000 bags of rice have been delivered for distribution to vulnerable in the areas of the local government of the State.
“This program is so dear to the heart of Alhaji Dangote as he has decided to do everything within his powers to help governments at all levels to alleviate poverty in Nigeria. He sees the distribution of rice as the commitment of the Foundation to support the values of compassion and solidarity that are at the center of humanity. Therefore, the initiative is a chromatic step to relieve our nation in an economic way.
The leader of the women’s market in the Edo state, the shepherd Josephine Ebhaguejezele, thanked ADF for helping the vulnerable to Edo and praised the governor Okpebholo for the opening of his administration and authentic efforts to help people in particular the men of the market and the women of the state.
He observed that since the governor entered on board, he authorized young people, women and vulnerable in the three senatorial districts of the Edo state.
Three of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Margerrette Ogun, Mrs. Patience Agharia and Princess Judith Oshodin in their separate response, praised Alhaji Dangote for remembering people through praisable programs such as the distribution of rice.
In the meantime, the Foundation in a separate agreement has distributed thousands of rice of 10 kg to the people of the host community of Okpella to Dangote Cement Plc in the local government Etsako East, as measuring parts to relieve Nigerian food suffering through the national palliative program.
Speaking during the distribution on the weekend, at the Okpella Okuokpellagbe building, Eng. Michael Sado, director, management of the interested parties, Dangote Cement Plc, Eng Patrick Omokagbo said that distribution is part of the CSR palliative measures to the people of the host community in appreciation of their cooperation with the management of the company for peaceful coexistence.
“This is one of the social responsibilities of Dangote to host community to its numerous activities throughout the nation. Given the unpleasant economic situation in the country with his poverty and hunger, Alhaji Aliko Dangote considers it necessary to provide free rice to people so that they can arouse a sigh of relief.
Speaking also, the secretary of the Okuopellagbe palace, the lawyer Akuri Afegbua expressed the sincere appreciation of the real fathers in the communities in Alhaji Dangote and the ADF for identifying the host communities for the donation of rice.
While praised the foundations for the gesture, Afegbua said that the rice would help to cushion the effect of hunger among the people of the communities.
Some of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Mercy Sado and Mr. Inusa Ahmed thanked the ADF for the food intervention and described the initiative as timely in view of the high inflation that means that many basic foods are out of the reach of the Nigerian poor.
