Obaseki’s ‘Do or Die’ statement sparks outrage: Edo group condemns PDP attempt to paralyze state
The Edo South Patriotic Forum (ESPF), a leading advocacy group, has strongly condemned Governor Godwin Obaseki’s inflammatory “do or die” statement at the PDP mega rally yesterday. The provocative remark has attracted widespread criticism for its potential to destabilize the state and incite violence.
Chief Emmanuel Aigbe, chairman of the ESPF, denounced Obaseki’s rhetoric as “irresponsible and dangerous”, warning of grave consequences, including:
- Escalating violence: strengthening extremist factions and putting innocent lives at risk.
- Voter intimidation: disenfranchisement and undermining the fairness of elections.
- Disruption of peace: fueling tensions and unrest, disrupting daily life and destabilizing the socio-political environment of the State.
ESPF also expressed concern that the endorsement of such rhetoric by the PDP may be an attempt to paralyze the democratic processes of the state. This strategy, they believe, is aimed at creating chaos and manipulating the election outcome through fear and intimidation rather than legitimate means.
In response, ESPF calls for immediate action to ensure the safety and security of the Edo people. They urge all stakeholders to denounce such dangerous rhetoric and work towards a peaceful and fair electoral process.
Chief Emmanuel Aigbe and the ESPF remain committed to promoting peace and protecting the rights of every Edo citizen during this critical election period.
ESPF’s condemnation of Obaseki’s statement and PDP’s tactics highlights the need for responsible leadership and peaceful political discourse in Edo State. As the elections approach, it is imperative that all stakeholders prioritize the well-being and stability of the state and its citizens.”
