Edo Killings: The group urged the north of the south to return home, threatening retaliation

A group under the auspices of the relevant North Forum (CNF), has threatened a retaliation attack throughout the northern region, including Abuja, following a terrible murder of 16 North Mosquers who are said to be hunters in Uromi, Edo state.

The group in a brief warning on Wednesday also urged the North who live in the southern region to return home for their safety.

The threat contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the National CNF Chairperson, Alhaji Ali Muhammad, accused the government of the state of Edo and the security institution for alleged failure to protect the northern, describing the inability of the authorities to protect the northern people outside of their territory as a call to anarchy.

Muhammad added that the alleged failure of government in taking decisive action could cause retaliation, emphasizing that no groups were monopolizing violations of the law.

Muhammad also condemned what he called a recurring target attack on the northern people in the southern part of the country and the destruction of property, which caused losses of billions of Naira.

While acknowledging the visit of the Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo to the state canoeing where he sympathized with the families of the victims, CNF said the movement was inadequate, insisted that only the arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators who would bring justice to the victims and to prevent further violence.

The part of the statement reads:

“The North must return home after the brutal murder of the North Hunters in Uromi, the state of Edo.

“It is not acceptable that while the northern remains law and friendly, they are slaughtered, and their property is destroyed.

“This pattern has occurred in various regions. We are fed up and will not remain passive because our people are slaughtered while the authorities fail to act.

“We demand the end of these attacks. No one has a monopoly of violence. If the authorities remain passive, retaliation cannot be avoided throughout the northern state, including Abuja.

“We recognize the visit of the Governor of Okpebholo but insisted it was insufficient. We demanded justice; the perpetrators must be arrested and prosecuted, and the victims’ families must be compensated.

“To prevent attacks in the future, the government must act decisively. Justice must be served. The northern people are targeted, their property is destroyed, and they are no longer safe outside the north.

“To avoid further tragedy, all North people must return to home and focus on building a safe and prosperous area.”
