The crisis that shook the Democratic Party (PDP) of the people in the state of Edo changed dramatically on Sunday as a loyalist from the Federal Capital Minister (FCT), Nyesom Wike, chose the executive committee of the Parallel state led by Nosa Ogieva.
Ogieva and 13 others appeared under the Legacy group platform at the State Congress of 2025 Faction held in Benin City. Of the 14 offices that were filled, 11 candidates were returned without opponents, while Tony Aziegbemi, Henry Tenebe, and Victor Enoghama were competing for leadership, secretary, and deputy chairman.
The Congress Committee said the exercise attracted 576 delegates from 192 state wards, strengthening their claims for the legitimacy of grassroots.
In his admission comments, Ogieva vowed to rebuild the party in Edo, promising a new initial. “Our appearance marked a new chapter at Edo PDP. We will not betray this party or just accept it. We are here to re -position and change the image of the PDP so that we can start winning the election again,” he said.
The head and orbih, the leader of the old group and the former Deputy Chairperson of the National PDP (South-South), was blamed for the division precisely to former Governor Godwin Obaseki. He argues that Obaseki defeat into the PDP disrupted the party, which had previously been united.

According to the orbih, “sowing the seeds of disputes and leaving the umbrella torn and destroyed.” He added that the increasingly depleted performance of the PDP in the selection of recently was evidence of the declining popularity and polarization of obaseki. “For the first time in our history, the elected governor, senator, and DPR members left PDP every day, all because of leadership failure,” he said.
The orbih rejected Obaseki’s loyalist as “the management who prayed that the PDP collapsed so that they could join the African Democratic Congress (ADC).”
He urged members to gather around integrity leaders who can restore credibility and protect members’ rights. “Those who are willing to sell or deny members, their rights must not have a place in the PDP that is restructured,” he said.
The Parallel Congress signifies the deepening fracture at Edo PDP, with the two Wike and Obaseki loyalist camps now claiming party control in front of the important selection contest.
