EFCC arrests 30 suspected internet fraudsters in Ilorin

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is yet to arrest 30 suspected internet fraudsters in Ilorin, Kwara State.

EFCC Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday in Abuja.

He said the suspects were arrested on Wednesday in a sting operation carried out by operatives of the agency in Agbede community, Ilorin.

“Officers of the Ilorin EFCC Zonal Directorate conducted a sting operation at two buildings flagged for suspected internet related fraud in Agbede Community in Ilorin, Kwara.

“The operation carried out on Wednesday resulted in the arrest of 30 suspected internet fraudsters, six of whom were students of Kwara State Polytechnic.

“The students’ profiles show that all six were actively involved in internet fraud.

“Eight vehicles suspected to be proceeds of crime were recovered from the suspects, along with mobile phones and laptops,” the spokesperson said.

He insisted that the sting operation had nothing to do with Kwara State Polytechnic.

According to him, there is no entrance to the polytechnic area and there is no disruption to school activities.

“It is untenable to link any protest by some polytechnic students to the legitimate operations of the EFCC.

“Any videos circulating linking the student protests to the Commission’s operations are fabricated and misrepresent the operations.

“The EFCC, for the umpteenth time, assures the public of the professionalism and integrity of its operations,” Oyewale concluded.
