The Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) has arrested eight people, including two Chinese citizens due to alleged illegal mining in the Ogere region in the state of Ogun.
The head of the EFCC media and publicity, Dele Oyewale, revealed this in a statement on Saturday in Abuja.
The suspects are Zhang Hang Lin, Gao Pei Hai, Matthew Mathias, Oluwaseun Amoo, Wasiu Ademola Alao, Ajibola Nurudeen, Ibrahim Yinusa, and Saidu Shuaibu.
He said the suspects were arrested on Friday after the credible intelligence received by the commission and detailed supervision of their activities.
“At the point of arrest, the operators found three trucks that were published with sacks of substances that were allegedly becoming Lithium Ground powder, along with other solid minerals that had not been identified.
Other items that were restored from the suspects were SUV Toyota 4runner, mobile phones, samples suspected of being low-quality lithium, ATM cards, international passports, four LED flashlights, and various documents that were relevant to the investigation.
The suspects will be charged in court after the end of the investigation, “the statement said.
