EFCC demands three men for alleged Forex N46M fraud

The Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) on Thursday approached three people in the Lagos Special Violation Court, Ikeja, for alleged Forex N46.3 million fraud.

The suspects Nduh, Ugbine Elder, and Idika Williams were charged with a company, Destiny Ocita International Limited, on charges of four conspiracy counts, stealing, gaining with false reasons and receiving cheating properties.

They, however, claimed to be innocent for the accusation.

Prosecutor EFCC, Mr. Nnaemeka Omewa, told the court that the defendants were suspected of violating in August 2023 in Lagos.

Omewa accused that the defendants, with others were still free, conspired and dishonestly converted for their use in the number of N46.3 million which belonged to one of the Mr. Chigozie Amadike.

He said the defendants, for fake reasons, told the complainant that they were Forex dealers and had RMB China which were equivalent to that number pegged in 377, 150 RMB to exchange for him, a representative they knew was wrong.

The prosecutor also said that Ugbine dishonestly defended the number of N50 million paid to his company’s account.

According to him, violations violated part 278 (1) (b) and 285 (9) of the Criminal Law of the State of Lagos, 2011 and Part 1 (1) (a) and 1 (3) of the Fraud of Face fees and violations related to other frauds, 2006.

Therefore, he asked the court to choose the date of the trial and that the defendants be returned at the Correctional Center.

Advisor for the first and second defendants, Mr. Tochukwu Igweza, urged the court to allow his clients to continue to enjoy the administrative guarantees given to them by EFCC.

The advisor to the third and fourth defendants, Mr. Anthony Ameh, also prayed that the court allowed his clients to enjoy the administrative guarantees given to them by the commission.

Judge Mojisola Dada decided that all defendants continued to enjoy the administrative guarantees given to them by EFCC.

He postponed this case until June 16 for the start of the trial.
