EFCC Investigator told the court’s aide to receive $ 17.1 million for Emefiele

Investigator of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), Mr. Alvan Gurumnaan, on Tuesday, told the Lagos High Court, Ikeja, that an aide received $ 17.1 million on behalf of the former Governor of the Central Bank Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, more than three years.

Emefiele was standing tried on the accusation of 19-calculation of corrupt satisfaction and demands.

The fellow defendant former governor, Henry Omoile, faced the accusation of three counts of receiving prizes that violated the law by the agent.

This duo was charged with fraud with a total of $ 4.5 billion and N2.8 billion.

Gurumnaan, an assistant commander with EFCC, said that at the hearing that was continued on this issue that he was assigned to lead a special operating unit that investigated the two defendants.

He was led as evidence by EFCC’s main advisor, Mr. Rotimi Oyedepo (San).

The witness told the court that the commission had previously received several intelligence reports against Emefiele, even when he was in the office.

The witness told the court that one of the close aides of the former CBN Governor, Mr. Monday Osazuwa, received a total of $ 17.1 million from a businessman in a speech on Victoria Island, Lagos, between September 2020 and June 2023.

“Osazuwa gathered this number in various stages and sent it to Emefiele at his ikoyi residence,” he said.

Gurumnaan also stated that part of the money was handed over to a Henry Omoile, for Emefiele’s instructions.

“The special operating team launched a broad investigation, issued many document requests and invited key staff from several CBN departments.

“One of the names that appeared repeatedly during the investigation belonged to Eric Eric, former personal assistant Emefiele.

“All attempts to bring Uts to be asked were not successful because he fled and was traced to Britain, Canada, and other countries,” the witness added.
