EFCC Re-Arraigns Agunloye for alleged $ 6 billion fraud

The Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), on Thursday, archived former Minister of Power and Steel, Dr. Olu Agunloye, for alleged $ 6 billion fraud in the contract award for Mambil Hydroelectric Power Station at the High Court Federal Capital Territory (FCT), APO.

He was charged with the accusations of seven counts that were amended because they did not comply with the President’s direction, forgery, and accepted satisfaction.

At the trial followed in this issue, the legal counsel, MK Hussain, who held a brief for Abba Muhammmed (SAN), told the court that he was ready for a cross -examination of the third prosecution witness (PW3).

He added that the prosecution had submitted a second amended demand against the defendant.

Legal advisors urged the court to allow the defendant to submit an application for the second allegations.

Advisor to the former minister, Adeola Adedipe (SAN), did not mind his client submitting an application for the second changed fee.

The accusations of seven counts that were amended were then read to the defendant, and he claimed to be innocent for the allegations that were changed.

In a changed cost marked by FCT/HC/CR/617/2023, EFCC accused that Agunloye, on May 22, 2003, consciously did not comply with the President’s direction made at the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on May 21, 2003.

The commission claims that the instructions are in accordance with the President’s power based on Section 5 (1) (a) of the 1999 Federal Nigeria Republic (as amended).

The prosecution further accused that the defendant went ahead and signed a letter addressed to the Sunrise Power and Transmission Company Limited (SPTCL), “Federal Government Approval for the Construction of the 3,960 Megawatt Milka Power Plant.”

Following the request of an innocent former minister, Hussain told the court that PW3, Umar Hussein Babangida, was not in court.

He, therefore, urged the court to vacate the previous date 22 and 25 September to listen to this case, added that the previous date had been communicated to the defense team.

Based on the agreements of the parties, judge Jude Onwuegbuzie postponed the problem until October 9 for a cross -examination of PW3.
