EFCC to arraign former energy minister, Sale Mamman over alleged N33 billion fraud on Thursday

The Economic and Financial Crimes Eradication Commission (ECI) will arraign former Energy Minister, Saleh Mamman, over an alleged N33 billion fraud at the Federal High Court, Abuja, on Thursday.

Mamman was sacked along with his counterpart in Agriculture and Rural Development, Sabo Nanono, by former President Muhammadu Buhari in September 2021.

The former minister, who was arrested by the EFCC in May last year, will be arraigned on 12 counts of fraud and money laundering before Justice James Omotosho.

The commission alleged that Mamman conspired with other officials in his ministry and some private companies to indirectly convert N33.8 billion released for the Mambilla and Zungeru Hydropower Projects by the Federal Government to personal use.

According to the KPPU, this act is contrary to Article 18(a), 15(2)(b) of the Anti-Money Laundering (Prohibition) Law of 2011 (as amended), and can be subject to sanctions under Article 15(3) of the same Law.
