Egypt 2025: Flying eagles reach the quarterfinals after 2-2 tie with Kenya

Nigeria reached the quarterfinals of the current CAF U20 championship in Egypt despite having to force Kenya’s rising stars to a 2-2 draw in the last game of Group B on Wednesday.

In the case, the Flying Eagles finished second on the table with five points, two behind the leaders of the Morocco group that drilled Tunisia 3-1 in the other pool match and will remain in Cairo for the quarterfinals, against the second place team in Group A. Group A is composed of the hosts Egypt, South Africa, Sierra Leone, Zambia and Tanzar.

The seven -time Nigeria champion will now have to make the trip to Ismail for its quarterfinal game on Monday, against the second place team in Group C. Group C is made up of the headlines of Senegal titles, the bitter rivals Ghana, the Central Republic of Africa and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The rising stars of Kenya made the game difficult for the Flying Eagles, since Aliyu Zubairu’s rooms had to come from behind twice to save the match.

Kevin Wangaya put the stars on the rise ahead after only five minutes, scoring from the penalty spot after a Nigerian defender stopped the ball with his hand in the box.

Nigeria restored parity seven minutes later, after Kparobo Arierhi made his way through the defense to place the ball firmly beyond the reach of the opposition’s goalkeeper.

The East Africans were back in the front in the 68th minute, since the Rying Eagles rear ball saw a freekick from the left and allowed William to fly the ball beyond the goalkeeper Ebenezer Harcourt de Lawrence in the treatment plant.

Five minutes later, Nigeria was agreed again, with Captain Daniel Bameyi sending the goalkeeper in the wrong way from the place after the substitute Mecos Rickson turns in the box.

The Flying Eagles match on Monday will be the first quarter of the final, starting at 3 pm, Egypt Time (1 PM, Nigeria time) in Ismail.
