Egypt continued its dominance at the 23rd African fence championship, claiming five of the six individual gold medals offered at the event held at Charterhouse, Lagos, Nigeria.
The only disorder of the Egyptian clean sweep came from Alexandra Ndolo from Kenya, who gave a governing performance to defeat Shirwit Gaber 15-8 from Egypt in the Final épée Putri.
On Friday, June 27, Egypt added two more titles, with Abdelrahman Tolba and Alanoud Hegazy capturing gold in men’s foil and women’s swords, each.
This victory followed the three previous gold medals secured by the Egyptian team in the first two days of the championship.

Tolba, who previously won bronze in 2023 and silver in 2024, completed his climb to the top of the podium with a 15-10 win over defending champion Mohamed Hamza in the men’s final foil. He previously drove past Cape Verde, Victor Alvares 15-4 in the semifinals.
In the female sword, Hegazy claimed the title of her first continent with a 15-8 victory over the winner of the 2024 bronze medal in Hafez.
The road to the final included a 15-10-finals victory over defending champions Lorina Essomba from Cameroon and semifinal victory 15-9 against Chaima Benadouda from Algeria.
The team event will begin on Saturday, June 28 to 29, with all eyes on the side of Egypt as defending champions.
