Eight people were killed and eight were injured in a car accident in the Badagry area in the state of Lagos on Sunday.
Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment at Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (Lastma), Adebayo Taofiq, confirmed the accident in a statement
.
He said the 16 -seat commercial Mazda bus with KJA 811 YF registration number, and a DAF truck marked T1 4636 LA involved in the accident.
Taofiq said: “Initial investigations revealed that commercial bus drivers lose control when navigating at high speeds that are dangerous, which leads to a disaster collision with DAF trucks.
“The tragic accident immediately claimed the lives of eight passengers, including bus drivers who had bad fate and conductor, threw gloomy pall on the Badagry axis and left the community in deep sorrow and collective sadness.
“Operative Lastma, in a concert with personnel from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Nigerian Police (Morogbo Division), and Battalion 244 from the Nigerian Army (Barak Ibereko), quickly launched a coordinated rescue operation at the accident site.
“Their timely intervention causes the success of the extraction of eight passengers who are still alive, all of which experience various levels of trauma.”
