A number of mixed reactions swept away by Ikere-Ekiti, the state of Ekiti on Monday after the Deputy Governor of the State Ekiti, Ny. Afuye Monisade, invited to assign a newly renovated gate at the Ikere Regional Government Secretariat, triggered public criticism and social media debates.
The event, organized by IKREE Regional Government Chair, Olu Adamolekun, was intended to show off the ‘Ultra-Modern Gate’ gate-a part of the achievement of local governments. However, many residents, seem un impressed, expressed disappointment that such a structure would guarantee the attention of the highest officials of the two states.
In a city that is famous for producing national icons such as the Head of Legal Driver Wole Olanipekun (SAN) and the famous poet Prof. Niyi Osundare, a gate commissioning becomes a source of entertainment and attention, when residents question the priorities of local governments and states.
The gate in question was originally built in 1999, standing at the entrance of the Ikere Regional Government Secretariat. According to the chairman, Adamolekun, the gate received a complete facelift under his reign, which he maintained with enthusiasm in responding to public criticism.
“This project is more than just a structure; this symbolizes a new identity and civil pride for IKREE people, said the chairman during his remarks.” What many people think is not possible in 18 months, we have sent it.

He added that commissioning was not merely about the gate itself but represented a greater narrative of transformation throughout the local government.
“What you see today is just a glimpse of the silent progress that occurred in Ikere,” he boasted.
Deputy Governor, represented by Hon. Victor Adeniyi, Deputy Chief of Staff, praised the chairman for his commitment and described him as a “quiet person” whose development steps spoke harder than words.
In his closing remarks, Adamolekun thanked the stakeholders of the community, party leaders, traditional institutions, and ikere people for their cooperation.
“I remain focused on providing governance that has an impact. I will not be disturbed by critics. More development projects are ongoing,” he said.
