Simon Ekpa, the self-proclaimed Prime Minister of the Republic of Biafra Government in Exile (BRGIE), has warned the Nigerian government against the construction of Army and police barracks bases in the South East region.
Ekpa’s warning came after the Nigerian Army announced raids on training camps allegedly run by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its militia wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN) in Abia State that were storing arms and ammunition. found.
A statement from the Army on Wednesday said: “In a clearance operation carried out in the early hours of Wednesday 12 June 2024, troops of the Nigerian Army together with Task Force Tactical Patrol Troops carried out a raid on an Indigenous training camp. People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, Eastern Security Network (ESN) located in Ihechiowa community in Arochukwu Local Government Area of ​​Abia State.
“During the operation, troops managed to infiltrate and dismantle the camp, destroying all equipment and training facilities found on site.
“This raid marks an important step in the ongoing efforts to curb acts of terrorism carried out by IPOB and ESN, which have been linked to various security challenges and violence perpetrated against innocent citizens as well as security personnel in the state.
“In addition to destroying training camps, troops also targeted buildings used as hideouts for key ESN Commanders. The operation was executed with precision and yielded significant intelligence.

But while reacting to the Army’s statement, Ekpa, in a tweet on Thursday, said the Biafra government had banned the construction of military bases and police barracks in the Southeast.
“The Government of Biafra has banned the construction of Nigerian terrorist bases @HQNigerianArmy @NigAirForce @PoliceNG, barracks in Biafra Region henceforth.
“We call on Governor Otti to immediately stop any further construction or anything in the name of the air force base, we call on Biafrans in Abia to stay away from the construction site. Attempts to establish kidnapping bases in Biafra territory will be resisted.”
