El-Rufai absent as Kaduna APC passes no-confidence motion against Governor Sani

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna State on Saturday gave a motion of confidence to Governor Uba Sani in recognition of his achievements in the past one year.

Party members passed the motion of confidence during the State Executive Committee meeting held at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Hall at Murtala Square, Kaduna.

The motion was made by the Zonal Deputy Chairman of the party, North-West, Mr Garba Babawo, and supported by former Member of Parliament for Chikun Federal Constituency, Mr Yakubu Barde,

This was followed by praise from party stakeholders who each spoke about the achievements recorded by the governor during the year.

The APC chairman in the state, Emmanuel Jakada, in his opening remarks, described the gathering as an extraordinary gathering aimed at ‘giving honour to those who deserve honour.’

He said: “We are also here to stir our minds on the issues of concern to our great party in Kaduna State and in particular to celebrate the remarkable milestone of the first year of the tenure of our visionary, tireless and capable Governor, Senator Uba Sani.

“His Majesty’s one year in office has marked significant achievements in his journey to transform Kaduna State into a home for progress, peace and prosperity.

“His leadership model has demonstrated a strong commitment to the welfare of the country’s people.

“His administration’s efforts to overhaul the education sector, improve healthcare infrastructure and boost economic growth are commendable.

“His various initiatives aimed at empowering youth, advancing agriculture and improving security are indeed commendable.”

He said what the governor had achieved in a short time had renewed people’s hopes that his performance would exceed all his campaign promises.

“His Excellency in his one year in office has demonstrated visionary leadership, steadfast dedication and passion for the people of Kaduna State.

“This has earned him the trust and confidence of everyone in the state and even across party lines.

“The above has motivated the State Executive Committee to hold an extraordinary State Executive Council Meeting today to appreciate and encourage him to continue the good work, the chairman added.

Additionally, the party’s Secretary in the state, Yahaya Pate, commended the governor for the awe-inspiring achievements recorded in his one year in office, particularly in the education and security sectors.

Pate assured Sani of the party’s continued support and loyalty.

The meeting was attended by party members from all local government areas in the state, party officials, past and present legislators and members of the state executive council.

However, former Governor Nasir El-Rufai was not present at the meeting.

There are rumors that Governor Sani and his predecessor are no longer on the same page after statements he made in recent months.

The governor in March claimed that he inherited a huge debt burden of $587 million, N85 billion and 115 contractual obligations from the last administration in the state.

Further cementing the animosity between the two men, the state House of Representatives in June asked the anti-graft agency to investigate and prosecute El-Rufai and some members of his cabinet over an alleged N423 billion fraud.

The former governor has filed a human rights enforcement suit against the Assembly at the Federal High Court, Kaduna, over the claims.
