The question of sides in this love narrative is completely beside the point. God knows. In trying to be as objective as possible, it is likely that I might be perceived as leaning in one direction.
For those who might be surprised on this path, I don’t blame you. It would take some critical thinking to get off this path. Now, here we are!
Davido is an artist I love and would continue to love. His talent is simply out of this world. His poise is second to none. His humility is breathtaking. No wonder he is phenomenally successful as a singer.
Sophia Momodu has never been on my radar, at least not until recently. But, from the outside, she is the image of a humble girl. I also see the image of a girl who is focused and has a steely determination to succeed in whatever she puts her mind to. Right or wrong, this is my honest opinion from the outside. Interestingly, they both have a pedigree of Edo roots. While Davido’s late mother is from Bini, Sophia’s late father is from the Afemai tribe of Edo North.
Although their relationship fell apart somewhere along the line, this shared affinity may have played a role in their getting closer in the first place. Don’t quote me on this. It’s just an optional opinion. Somehow, both parties would surely have found common ground after this storm. But I have my little concerns after reading what Davido said about Sophia in his public statement, in relation to Sophia’s alleged alcohol abuse and cannabis smoking. If this is true, at what point in their relationship did Davido notice it? What was Sophia’s status with those substances before Davido met her? Was she drinking and smoking before they met? If so, what was Davido’s attraction to an alcoholic and smoking “igbo” when there were more respectable women on the streets of Lagos? Davido stated in the same public statement that, at the birth of their daughter, Imade, his main health challenge was the infestation of the newborn through breastfeeding, alcohol and cannabis.
This is undoubtedly a very damaging accusation against a woman. The question again is: at what point did Sophia end up in this situation? Did Davido know and what did he do to help? Was she treated fairly when she got pregnant? A young pregnant woman, faced with total rejection from the one she loved and without the right counseling, could venture into anything, including drugs. However, if none of this had happened, what was Davido, given his status, doing with a drug addict? Davido also made the accusation that Sophia was a tramp when they met.
If she was really a vagabond as they say, there must be something about this girl that Davido couldn’t resist, what is it? However, contrary to this statement, Sophia has not been lazy. She is an influencer for some globally recognized products, such as Monster Energy drinks and other fashion-related things.
Activities of this nature, paying bills, yes, of course she does. Sophia’s case cannot be different. With this, she can afford to live in Banana Island outside the help of Davido. She can also afford a vacation with her daughter, to any destination of her choice without inviting the Adelekes. However, Imade is Davido’s daughter. Davido works hard and is blessed. Sophia has what it takes as a mother, to take care of her daughter until she comes of age. When the time is right, Imade would “leave” Sophia for Davido. Most young women raised by single mothers do that. Until then, Imade must reflect the true image of a superstar’s daughter that she is: glamour and glitz. Over to Davido!
