#EndBadGovernance protests: Plateau govt eases curfew in Jos/Bukuru city

The Plateau State government has eased the 24-hour curfew previously imposed in the Jos/Bukuru metropolitan area to allow residents to go out for a few hours.

Gyang Bere, Director of Press and Public Affairs to the State Governor Caleb Muftwang, in a statement issued on Wednesday afternoon said: โ€œFollowing the improvement in the security situation in the Jos-Bukuru metropolitan area, the Plateau State Government has announced the relaxation of the 24-hour curfew imposed earlier.

โ€œStarting Wednesday, August 7, 2024, residents in the area can now freely move between 2:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. daily until further notice.

โ€œGovernor Caleb Mutfwang, who ordered the easing after consulting with security agencies, commended them for their diligence and commitment to ensuring strict compliance with the curfew.

โ€œHe stressed the importance of maintaining vigilance to prevent potential breaches of law and order and assured that the government would continue to review the curfew as the situation improves.

โ€œThe Governor appealed to residents of Jos-Bukuru metropolitan area to cooperate with security operatives and report any suspicious activities for immediate action. He assured the public of the governmentโ€™s unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of all citizens and commended the residents for their patriotism in adhering to the curfew, noting that their cooperation was vital to the collective interest of the State.โ€

Protests in the Jos-Bukuru metropolis turned violent as angry youths vandalized property and caused tension in the state.

Hence, the government imposed a curfew to restore peace and order in the state.
