The Plateau State government has eased the 24-hour curfew previously imposed in the Jos/Bukuru metropolitan area to allow residents to go out for a few hours.
Gyang Bere, Director of Press and Public Affairs to the State Governor Caleb Muftwang, in a statement issued on Wednesday afternoon said: โFollowing the improvement in the security situation in the Jos-Bukuru metropolitan area, the Plateau State Government has announced the relaxation of the 24-hour curfew imposed earlier.
โStarting Wednesday, August 7, 2024, residents in the area can now freely move between 2:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. daily until further notice.
โGovernor Caleb Mutfwang, who ordered the easing after consulting with security agencies, commended them for their diligence and commitment to ensuring strict compliance with the curfew.

โHe stressed the importance of maintaining vigilance to prevent potential breaches of law and order and assured that the government would continue to review the curfew as the situation improves.
โThe Governor appealed to residents of Jos-Bukuru metropolitan area to cooperate with security operatives and report any suspicious activities for immediate action. He assured the public of the governmentโs unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of all citizens and commended the residents for their patriotism in adhering to the curfew, noting that their cooperation was vital to the collective interest of the State.โ
Protests in the Jos-Bukuru metropolis turned violent as angry youths vandalized property and caused tension in the state.
Hence, the government imposed a curfew to restore peace and order in the state.
