Enugu Governor Mbah visits veteran Gwo Gwo Gwo singer Mike Ejeagha, names a road after him and takes full responsibility for its maintenance

Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah on Monday, paid a courtesy visit to veteran highlife musician, Mike Ejeagha, of β€˜Gwo Gwo Gwo’ fame, where he renamed the popular Obinagu Street in Abakpa Nike in the state after the singer.

Mbah who made the announcement during the inauguration of four roads in Abakpa Nike area of ​​Enugu, said Obinagu Road will henceforth be called Mike Ejeagha Crescent.

He also vowed to take full responsibility for the care of the 93-year-old musician who became an internet sensation in July after content creator Brain Jotter used his song ‘Gwo Gwo Gwo’ for a dance challenge that brought him to the limelight.

Speaking at the event, the Governor said it was important to recognize and honor the veteran musician’s achievements while he was still alive.

β€œIn recognition of Mike Ejeagha’s immense contribution to the cultural heritage of Enugu State, we have renamed Obinagu Street, which leads to his residence and was rebuilt earlier this year, to Mike Ejeagha Street,” Mbah said.

He stressed that the move was part of the state government’s efforts to celebrate Ejeagha’s significant contribution to Enugu’s cultural heritage.

Mbah also pledged continued support for the high-life icon, assuring that his welfare would be prioritised as part of the government’s wider commitment to upholding the state’s rich cultural heritage.
