Erik Ten Hag’s assistant tells NFF there is no problem in leaving Manchester United to work for the Super Eagles

Manchester United assistant coach Steve McClaren says he is open to the idea of leaving the English Premier League giants if he is given the job of managing Nigeria’s senior team. Own goal Nigeria.com reports.

McCLaren is in the running for the job as Nigeria’s senior national team coach but faces stiff competition from the duo of Tom Saintfeit and Eric Chelle, the latter of whom is considered the favourite for the role left vacant by the departure of Finidi George.

Last week, the 63-year-old was questioned by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) technical committee and during the interaction he was asked what will be the fate of his job with Manchester United if he is given the Super Eagles job.

“Of course we asked him and he made it clear that he would have no problem leaving his post at Manchester United. I think that, like Chris Houghton, who spent some time in Ghana, he wants to be a coach again and the national team is the best option,” revealed a member of the committee.

Speaking about whether the football house will be able to pay the coach’s salary, he said that not for a moment was money an issue during their conversation as the coach is not motivated by that but wants a chance in international football as a head coach.

“That was not a problem and it won’t be if he gets the job. He has made enough money in his life and the passion for managing at an international level is what drives him,” he concluded.
