Exclusive: Finidi George Reaveals Playing Career Regret

The 53 year-old coach who recently stepped down from his position as Technical Adviser of Enyimba to take up the Super Eagles job, spoke with Brila.net on his playing days and his biggest miss.

Finidi admitted that he was close to joining Real Madrid from Ajax, but the Spanish club could not reach agreement on Ajax’s asking price.

“My only regret is not signing for Real Madrid,” he recounted. “The Real Madrid you know now is different from 25 years ago.”

“They were struggling with money and couldn’t reach an agreement with Ajax. I had already agreed personal terms with Madrid and spoken with Coach Capello.

“I had a pre-contract but Real Madrid and Ajax couldn’t agree on the transfer fee.”
