Former Minister of Education, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, has described the task of defending the administration led by the Tinubu Bola President as a difficult thing, quoting what he called the policies that were executed badly that had made the country’s economy worse.
Speaking on Monday during the Panel Session at the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) conference in Enugu, Ezekwesili believes that although some of the reforms initiated by the Federal Government are needed, they are implemented without adequate preparation, so that the combination of difficulties for citizens.
“This is a difficult job to maintain the APC government. You can do the right policy, but if you do it the wrong way, there will be problems,” he said.
Quoting the elimination of fuel subsidies for example, the former Vice President of the World Bank noted that while the reform had been delayed for a long time, executions were rushed and unplanned with bad triggering inflationary pressures that continued to burden the poor.
“Reformation is not prepared. That is a good reform done in the wrong way. Inflation punishes the population. The declaration that ‘subsidies disappear’ without adequate protection has plunged many Nigerians into the penury,” complained.

Ezekwesili further warned the legal profession for legitimizing prebendal politics and appreciation practices that prioritize personal enrichment rather than public services.
“The idea that politics is a path to becoming rich is an anomaly,” he said. “Any profession that appreciates such behavior cannot claim to care about the future.”
He reminded the attendees that more than 133 million Nigerians currently live in poverty and urge justice to strengthen their role in upholding the rule of law.
“This country lies prostration for the poor,” said Ezekwesili. “The legal profession must rise above to pander to political classes and vice versa protect the interests of the masses.”
