Fact Check: Does Tinubu ordered Disbursement ₦ 50K as a Sallah cash prize?

Claiming: The Tinubu Ball President has ordered the disbursement of ₦ 50,000 to citizens as sallah cashgift.

Complete text:

A virus broadcast on WhatsApp claimed that President Tinubu had ordered the disbursement of 50,000 for citizens in the celebration of Muslim Festival, Eid al -Fitr.

Claims began to circulate only a few hours until the Day of the Muslim Festival, which will be celebrated globally on June 6.

The post claims that President Tinubu, who is a Muslim himself, through the Federal government, will distribute cash prizes to all Nigerians.

The new claim is distributed to the WhatsApp group with more than 400 members.

Verification:

Ripples Nigeria can authoritarianly report that the President, Tinubu has not ordered the federal government to distribute cash prizes to citizens for Sallah.

The post circulating is a phishing link targeting Nigerians. Following up with the registration process describing individuals on cyber attacks.

The direction page is usually from the phishing site asking for a telephone number, and instructs that the link is distributed to other groups to claim prizes.

Usually, no prizes are given to social media users who are not suspicious after they share a link to five groups consisting of 15 friends.

Conclusion:

President Tinubu has not ordered the federal government to withdraw cash prizes to Nigerians for Sallah.
