Over the years, insecurity has been a major problem in Nigeria, damage The country is like a plague of locusts. Robbery and insurgency have created a devastating security threat to Nigeria, claiming many lives and displacing tens of thousands of people in the country.
On September 12, 2024, user X Attah Ejike @attahejike567 posted a 56-second video clip showing a large number of men moving around carrying guns and ammunition in an unidentified forest. The video captioned that the terrorists shown were Fulanis who had entered Nigeria from various parts of Africa to start massacres in the country.
Within 24 hours, the post had been viewed more than 107,000 times, retweeted more than 1,000 times, tagged more than 1,000 times, and received more than 180 comments.
@attamakuza said: “They will all be tamed.” As well as, @Eberechukwumic1 commented: “Lord have mercy, why isn’t the military doing anything about this.”
On the other hand @Olokson Deminient commented: This is an old video and the location is not even in Nigeria. Likewise, @YusufBuji noted: “Fake news.”

Due to the controversy in the comments section and the potential for the post to cause panic and fear among the public, Ripples Nigeria decided to verify the claims to set the record straight.
Verification
Ripples Nigeria submitted a screenshot of the video to Google Reverse Image Search, and the results showed that the video had been revived, as similar videos have been circulating since 2018.
Google Lens shows that credible media platforms in Nigeria had previously reported that police flagged the video for manipulation and editing as seen HereAnd Here.
A thorough search was also conducted on the BBC website, which is believed to be the source of the video. No such report was found on the BBC website.
Conclusion
Fake! Ripples Nigeria’s findings show that the claim that a video shows Fulani people from various African countries arriving in Nigeria is not new. Similar videos have been circulating on the internet since 2018.
