FACT CHECK: Was Tinubu’s son chased by protesters during recent demonstrations in Lagos as a content creator claims?

Claiming: Protesters chase President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s son during a recent demonstration in Lagos State.

The indictment: Wrong. The viral video is old; Tinubu’s son was not chased during the #EndBadGovernance protests last month.

A content creator on Facebook recently shared a video with claim that protesters in Lagos State were chasing the son of the Nigerian president.

The 17-minute 18-second clip was captioned: β€œBreaking news live in Lagos, protesters chasing Tinubu’s son shouting Tinubu ole (sic).”

Recall that thousands of Nigerians across the country held 10-day demonstrations (August 1–10) in response to Nigeria’s crippling cost of living crisis. However, the protests were short-lived as security agencies fired tear gas at protesters in some states while the protests escalated into violence in some parts of the country.

It is seen that the same video is shared across social media pages, thereby reaching more people.

Meanwhile, using keyword searches, we found no credible news reports about protesters chasing Tinubu’s son, nor about the protests in Lagos in September.

Conclusion:
