Faction of the Labor Party Error Selection, Warning Threats to 2027 Polls

The Labor Party Faction (LP) led by Senator Nenadi Usman, has criticized the behavior of the selection of between Saturdays in 16 states, describing the exercise as a setback for Nigerian democracy and warning signs ahead of the 2027 General Election.

In a statement signed by Ken Asogwa, a Senior Special Advisor (Media) to the Acting National Chair, Senator Nenadi Usman, the party accused the widespread deviations, including the purchase of votes, violence, and lack of transparency.

“What happened in Nigeria on behalf of the selection of interruptions as big as democratic ridicule. From Kaduna to Anambra, Ogun to Oyo and Kano, the report shows the vote construction incidents, voter intimidation, and logistical disappointment,” the statement said.

LP believes that the Independent National Election Commission (Inec), which oversees the exercise, failed to uphold democratic standards. He warned that except for urgent reforms, the credibility of the 2027 general election could be in danger.

“If Inec cannot make elections outside the limited season with transparency and credibility, it raises serious concerns about its ability to manage national general elections in 2027,” the party said.

While Inec has not officially responded to the accusation, the previous commission described the election of the interim elections mostly peaceful and successful, acknowledged only a few isolated incidents.
