Fagbemi denies interference with EFCC, ICPC investigation

Attorney General Federation and the Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, said on Thursday that the current government will continue to guarantee the independence of anti-corruption institutions in the war against corruption.

Fagbemi revealed this to reporters in between the federal peak management retreats held at Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom state.

AGF said the government of the Tinubu Bola President would continue to ensure the independence of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) and independent corruption practices and other related violation commissions (ICPC) in the war against corruption.

Fagbemi stressed that the federal government did not interfere in any investigation that began with anyone or organization because of alleged involvement in crime by anti-corruption agents.

“We did not interfere in investigating corruption cases by anti-corruption institutions.

“So, what we do is leave them because they are most suitable, they are well organized, and that is why they are applied to try and investigate with regard to the accusation or crime commission.

“When they were finished with their investigation, we took it from there and saw whether there were gaps or whether there were some other problems that had to be further investigated,” the Minister said.

He said the constitution guaranteed the independence of anti-corruption institutions and the government would not interfere in their investigation.
