Falana condemns DSS raid on SERAP offices, says it is abuse of power

Femi Falana, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and prominent human rights lawyer, has condemned the recent unlawful raid by the Department of State Services (DSS) on the office of the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) in Abuja.

On Monday, SERAP alerted the public via its official account X, reporting that DSS agents had taken over its office in Abuja. The organization called on President Bola Tinubu to order the DSS to stop the harassment, intimidation and attacks on the rights of Nigerians.

In response, Falana issued a statement condemning the attack, calling it an abuse of power. He called on the Federal Government to identify and prosecute those responsible for the invasion.

“I condemn the storming of the SERAP office,” Falana said.

“The Tinubu government must immediately identify the officers responsible for this act on behalf of the government. Anyone found responsible for the invasion must face legal action. The government must ensure that human rights defenders can carry out their duties freely, in accordance with the Nigerian Constitution.”
