In a step that has triggered a new debate in the political circle of Nigeria, the former Governor of the State Ekiti, Ayodele Fayose, has expressed his support for the offer of the re -election of Ball President Ahmed Tinubu and the Governor of the State Ekiti in the field of Democratic.
Fayose made a declaration on Monday during a high-profile political meeting held at the Ado-Ekiti, attended by prominent figures including former governors, state leaders, and members of the National Assembly from the Ekiti state.
“I here -to -support this, without inflammation, the President of the Tinubu Bola for the second term. I also support our governor, Biodun Oyewbanji, and his deputy for the second term,” said Fayose, getting a lively cheers from the participants.
Describing the meeting as a “unique performance of political unity”, Fayose said it reflects maturity in ekiti politics which should function as a model throughout Nigeria.
“This unity is a model for all states in Nigeria,” he added.
While clarifying that he did not have a plan to join the decision of all the Progressives Congress (APC), Fayose stressed that his ratification was not encouraged by politics but by performance.

“I am not a member of his party and I will never, but I stand here to say I have seen a good job. I praise the humility and leadership of Governor Oyebbanji. He deserves another term,” said the former governor.
He further challenged Governor Oyebbanji to improve standards by replicating the achievements of his own historic election.
“Who will, for the first time again, become a record holder to win in all 16 local governments and all 177 ekiti wards? That is just like that. But when we get to the field, we will fight,” he said, befalling his own victory during his term of office.
Fayose also gave praise to Segun Oni, another former Governor of Ekiti who was present at the event, praising him for his role in fostering cross -party collaboration and unity in state political affairs.
Interestingly, while congratulating the new defectors from the parties from the opposition parties who had joined APC, Fayose clarified that his personal political attitude remained unchanged.
He said his support for Tinubu and OyebBanji was not taken out of the defector or compromise, but from honest recognition of their governance records.
Ratification came at the time of increasing intra-party tension in PDP and could further complicate the party’s strategy that entered the 2027 election, especially in the southwest.
Analysts suggest that Fayose’s steps, although controversial, can indicate the rearrangement of broader political interests, especially among opposition figures who admire the leadership style of Tinubu or want to maintain relevance in the shifting Nigerian political sand.
