On Monday the Independent National Electoral Commission I (NEC) has published the final list of candidates who are contested in the elections of the Council of the FCT area of 2026.
A declaration by the National Commissioner and the President of the Information and the Committee for the Education of Voters, Sam Olumekun, said that the complete list of candidates for party, age, gender and academic qualifications has been uploaded to our website and social media platforms for public information.
According to the declaration, no further withdrawals or substitutes for candidates would be allowed except in the event of a candidate or a racing partner before the day of the elections, as required by section 34 (1) of the electoral law.
The details of the declaration stated: “It will be remembered that on 18 August 2025 the Commission published the personal details of the candidates that emerged from the primaries conducted by the political parties for the elections of the Council of the territory of the territory of the federal capital (FCT) of 2026.
“A total of 17 political parties loaded the details of their candidates (EC9 form) by the expiry of 18:00 on Monday 11 August 2025 and at the end of the period for the withdrawal and replacement of candidates.
“Consequently, the Commission publishes the final list of candidates who are contested in the elections of the Council of the FCT of 2026
“With this publication, further withdrawals or substitutes of candidates will not be allowed except in the event of a candidate or a racing partner before the day of the elections, as required by section 34 (1) of the electoral law.
“The elections of the Council of the FCT area will be waited on Saturday 21 February 2026”.
