FCT residents began to carry out unlimited attacks on unliled demands

The Resident Doctor Association in the Federal Capital Region (ARD-FCTA) on Monday began an unlimited strike over the government’s failure to overcome the long-standing and systemic problems.

President Ard-FCTA, Dr. George Ebong, and Secretary General, Dr. Agbor Affiong, announced the action in a communication at the end of the Association Emergency Congress on Sunday.

The latest strike follows the end of the seven -day warning attack, which ended after the congress.

The association, consisting of doctors in 14 FCTA districts and general hospitals and the Department of Public Health, expressed disappointment that no previous demands were fulfilled despite months of negotiations.

“This once again confirms our fear of chronic neglect of our health care system, affecting the doctor’s ability to provide the highest standard treatment,” said the communicate.

The main demands include payment of salary arrears – Switching from one to six months – taken to a doctor employed since 2023, immediately recruiting new staff, completion of 2025 medical residency training funds, and implementation of arrears from 25-35 percent of consolidated medical salary structures.

The doctors also demand a schedule to complete the leap and conversion process, correction of wrong salary reduction, irregular salary payment resolution, and post-parting of partners to the consulting status within six months of qualification. Additional requests include wage awards, renovations and equipping FCTA hospitals, arrears of hazard allowances, and unpaid external occupants salaries that are currently in debt wages of three to four months.
