“Fear of being sacked”, Mikel reveals why he’s not pursuing a coaching career

In a recent episode of his Obione Podcast, former Super Eagles captain and Chelsea star John Mikel Obi has disclosed that managing a football team is not on his agenda in the foreseeable future.

Mikel, who enjoyed a distinguished thirteen-year career at Chelsea under renowned managers, attributed his reluctance to the fear of potential dismissal.

“I don’t think so, when I look at my teammates that I thought are going to be absolutely great managers and how things have turned out for them. Not saying Lampard and Terry.”

“But people that we are taught are going consider management, I mean the likes of Didier Drogba, Michael Ballack, Ricardo Calvalho, Michael Essien, then I feel it’s not for me yet.

“Only Frank Lampard has done it. Yea, maybe I’ll consider it if they promised not to sack me and allow me stay forever. I’m really afraid of getting sacked.” He said.

Recall that the former Trabzonspor’s midfielder revealed he and his teammates took a stand to force the sacking of a manager during their time at the club.
