Federation Cup President: The men’s final is a matter for warriors!

Abia Warriors and El-Kanemi Warriors will make history as the first two teams to play in the final of Nigeria’s oldest club competition in Abuja on Saturday next week, after both teams emerged winners in tough semi-final duels on Thursday .

The Abia State giants reached the final after a 4-3 penalty shootout defeat over Kano Pillars at the Lafia City Stadium, with both teams tied in a goalless situation after 90 minutes.

Former winners El-Kanemi Warriors also triumphed 5-4 after a penalty shootout over surprise semi-finalists Kebbi United at the NFF/FIFA Goal Project in Abuja, with both teams also failing to find the net in the regular 90-minute period.

In the penalty shootout, Pillars forward Ibrahim Mustapha vitiated the need for the Abia Warriors to take their last shot after missing his team’s last shot. Pillars missed two of his five kicks while Abia Warriors converted all four of his kicks.

In Abuja, struggling Kebbi United missed their second shot in the penalty shootout, while El-Kanemi Warriors converted their five to advance to the nearby MKO Abiola National Stadium for the grand final on June 29.
