The Federal Government has announced that Tuesday 15 July 2025 will be observed as a public holiday throughout the country in honor of the late former president Muhammadu Buhari.
This decision followed the previous announcement of a seven -day national mourning period by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The announcement was made by the Minister of the Interior, dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the federal government after receiving presidential approval.
According to the minister, the holiday was intended to pay homage to the inheritance of the service of the deceased president, to his role in strengthening the democracy of Nigeria and his contribution to national development.
“President Muhammadu Buhari served this nation with sincerity, commitment and a strong conviction in unity and progress. The holiday day will offer citizens the opportunity to reflect on the values that has embodied throughout his life,” said dr. Tunji-Ojo.
He invited the Nigerians to honor Buhari’s memory by embracing peace, unity and patriotism: he brings the former leader supported during his period in office.
As part of the national mourning, the flags will remain at half auction for the duration of the seven -day compliance, which began on Sunday 13 July.
