FG inaugurates the government councils of the federal tertiary institutions, the Minister of Education Agency, Dr. Tunji Alausa, inaugurated the new members appointed by the government councils for selected and parastal federal tertiary institutions under the federal ministry of education.
Alausa, who presented letters of appointment to the nominated Tuesday in Abuja, accused them of providing visionary and responsible leadership to reposition the universities and universities of Nigeria for global competitiveness.
In his key speech, the minister congratulated the nominated for their nominations and confirmation, stating that their appointment was both a recognition of their individual results and a call to the national service.
He observed that government councils, as higher political entities in tertiary institutions, play an important role in institutional governance, in the formulation of policies, in financial supervision and in the guarantee of academic and administrative excellence.
“Your appointments are not only a recognition of individual results and contributions to national development, but also of an invitation to serve with integrity, vision and responsibility,” he said.
Alausa recognized the numerous challenges that have addressed the tertiary education sector, including financing constraints, infrastructure deficits, industrial disputes and decreasing global rankings.
He urged the new members of the Council to provide strategic supervision in compliance with the autonomy of university management.
“Your role is not to manage universities on a daily basis, but to provide a strategic direction and ensure that the institutions are governed in accordance with relevant laws and existing policies,” he said.
The minister stressed that university autonomy must be combined with transparency and responsibility in the supply premiums, budgets, appointments and contracts.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the federal government to revitalize the tertiary education sector under the renewed agenda of hope of President Bola Tinubu.
According to him, the administration is investing in infrastructure, promoting solar energy solutions for the electrification of the campus, improving staff well -being and improving access to quality education.
“The strategic commitments with the interested parties led to political reforms aimed at promoting institutional autonomy, promoting research and innovation and guaranteeing industrial harmony,” said Alausa.
He reminded the nominated that their roles were not ceremonial, but a national duty that required diligence, commitment and strategic leadership.
Responding in the name of the nominated, the president of the government council of the Universal Basic Education Commission (Ubec), the senator Umaru Tanko al-Makura, thanked President Tinubu for the opportunity to serve.
He ensured the federal government of the collective resolution of the advice to support the transformation of the nation’s educational sector.
The new ones -nominated presidents include deputy admiral Victor Ombu (RTD), president of the government council, Admiralty University of Nigeria, Ibusa, Delta State; And Prof. Olrelmi Aina, president of the Federal College of Education (Technical), Umunze, Anambra State.
Others are Prof. Shuaibu Aliyu, executive secretary of the National Mass Education Commission (NMEC); Adebayo Onigbanjo, national coordinator, special programs operations and implementation units (Spiu); and Hon. Chidi Nwogu, President, African Aviation and Aerospace University, Abuja.
Dr. have also been appointed Folashade Kareem, president of the University of Jos; Dr. Holiday Adeniyi, president of the Federal University of Technology, Ikot-Abasi, Akwa Ibom State; And Babaude Olokun, president of Federal University, Kashere, Gombe State, among others.
