FIFA establishes an income objective of $ 1 billion for the World Cup

The president of the FIFA, Gianni Infantino, has announced that the World Football Government body is pointing at $ 1 billion in revenues of the next Women’s World Cup.

Speaking in the Saudi Arabia Investment Forum 2025 in Riad, Infantino said that the 2023 edition, organized by Australia and New Zealand, broke even after generating more than $ 570 million in income.

“Women’s football and women in football are crucially,” said Infantino.

“It is also growing and exponentially, and we are also aiming to have income of $ 1 billion only with the World Cup of women to reinvest in the women’s game.”

The FIFA 2027 Women’s World Cup will be organized by Brazil, marking the first time the tournament will be organized in South America.

Although the opening and final places have not yet been revealed, FIFA emphasized the preparation of Brazil and the vitality that will bring to the global masterpiece.

“From Samba to Frevo, from impressive beaches to cosmopolitan cities, the world will experience the energy, color and heat that only Brazil can offer,” added Infantino.

Expansion and future accommodation plans

FIFA has also confirmed that the 2031 Edition of the Women’s World Cup will be expanded to 48 teams, compared to 32.

The United States is expected to be the host of the tournament, while the United Kingdom is preparing a joint offer for 2035, which involves England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Despite the offer to organize the 2027 edition, South Africa retired, leaving Africa waiting for their first opportunity to organize the tournament.

The most successful team in Africa on the global stage, Super Falcons, remains the only African nation that has participated in all women’s World Cup since its inception in 1991.

After advancing from the group stage in consecutive editions for the first time (2019 and 2023), Nigeria will point to a deeper race in 2027.

To ensure their ticket to the next World Cup, the Super Falcons must qualify for the WAFCON 2026 semifinals.
