FIFA finally authorizes Arthur Okonkwo for Nigeria

FIFA has officially approved Arthur Okonkwo’s international switch, making the Wrexham FC Goalkeeper eligible to represent the Nigeria national football team at senior level.

The 24-year-old goalkeeper, born in Camden to Nigerian parents, had previously represented England youth football teams at various levels, including under-18s, during his time at Arsenal FC.

However, he had not been named at the top level, leaving the door open for a change of allegiance.

Okonkwo joined Wrexham on loan in 2023, impressing during his time at the Racecourse Ground before sealing a permanent move in the summer of 2024.

Since then, he has established himself as a key figure for the club, delivering consistent performances and recording multiple clean sheets in their league campaign.

The FIFA approval, confirmed in early April 2026, marks an important milestone in Okonkwo’s international career.

The authorization now places him firmly in the fight for selection of the Super Eagles for the upcoming international matches.

His availability is expected to bolster Nigeria’s goalkeeping department, where he will compete with established options such as Stanley Nwabali, Maduka Okoye and Francis Uzoho.

With the green light secured, attention now turns to whether Okonkwo will earn a maiden call-up and potentially make his debut in Nigerian colors as the Super Eagles continue to progress towards future competitions.
