FIFA introduces African referees for 2026 World Cup (See list)

FIFA has announced the list of African referees who will take part in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with seven referees securing places in football’s biggest tournament.

However, the list does not include some famous names.

According to the Africa Top Sports report, the referees selected are:

Mustapha Ghorbal (Algeria)
Amin Mohamed (Egypt)
Pierre Atcho (Gabon)
Jalal Jayed (Morocco)
Dahane Beida (Mauritania)
Tom Abongile (South Africa)
Omar Artan (Somalia).

The officials impressed during the continental competition under the Confederation of African Football and will now represent Africa at the 2026 tournament, which will be hosted in the United States, Mexico and Canada.

Mustapha Ghorbal (Algeria)
Widely respected for his calm authority, Ghorbal has built a reputation for handling high-pressure matches across Africa.

Amin Mohamed (Egypt)

Pierre Atcho (Gabon)

Jalal Jayed (Morocco)
With experience in major tournaments, Jayed is used to officiating intense, high-stakes matches.

Dahane Beida (Mauritania)
A rising name, Beida is renowned for his tight yet balanced leading style.

Tom Abongile (South Africa)
A familiar face in CAF competitions, Abongile is considered one of the best referees on the continent.

Omar Artan (Somalia)
Artan has been praised for his discipline and control in matches at regional and domestic levels.
