In preparation for the upcoming U-20 Women’s World Cup, which begins on August 31 in Colombia, the Nigeria Football Federation has scheduled two friendly matches to fine-tune the team, and the Falconets recorded a 2-1 victory over Australia in their first warm-up match.
“Our win over Australia was very sweet but I have told the girls to forget about that and focus on Monday’s match. We need another win to keep our winning mentality. We won five of our six qualifiers with good results and now we have added the win over Australia,” Danjuma told the NFF website.
“As I always say, the FIFA World Cup finals here will not be easy. The fact that we face Korea Republic and three-time world champions Germany in our first two games means that we must be at our best physically, mentally and psychologically.
“Physically and mentally I think we are in good shape. Psychologically we are fine and it would be great if we beat the Mexicans and arrive undefeated to the competition.”
The Falconets will begin their World Cup campaign on September 2 against South Korea, followed by a clash with Germany two days later, before completing their group stage matches against Venezuela on September 7.
The girls are determined to go all the way this time, aiming to improve on their second places in 2010 and 2014.
