Five months later, the Wike-backed PDP takes over the national secretariat

Five months after being sealed due to factional clashes, the Nigerian Police have officially opened the National Secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), located at Wuse Zone 5 in Abuja.

The Wadata Plaza headquarters has been handed over to the FCT minister, Nyesom Wike faction led by Abdulrahman Mohammed, the newly elected national president of the party.

The property that would have been withdrawn was sealed in November, due to a leadership dispute between a faction led by Tanimu Turaki, SAN, and a caretaker committee led by Abdulrahman Mohammed.

Thanks to the new development, the NPF has just restored access previously denied to journalists, party members and party leadership over the months.

In a statement by the party’s national publicity secretary, Hon. Jungudo Haruna Mohammed confirmed to journalists on Sunday that the PDP Legacy House property has also been reopened and handed over to party officials.

The situation has since been resolved after the interim committee emerged as recognized leadership at the party’s recent national convention.

After the conference, the Federal High Court in Abuja ordered the police to open the affected properties and return them to the party leadership.

It is expected that the reopening of the secretariat will facilitate the resumption of full administrative activity at the party’s national headquarters.

The statement further reads: “The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) hereby informs all members and the general public that the National Secretariat of the Party, Wadata Plaza, as well as The Legacy House, Maitama, have been opened by the Nigeria Police Force and handed over to the National President, Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed Takushara and Senator Samuel Anyawu, National Secretary in full compliance with the court orders duly issued.

“The party commends the Nigerian Police Force for its professionalism and respect for the rule of law. This action is a clear demonstration of respect for constitutional order and due process.

“The party strongly warns that it will not again condone any act capable of causing obstruction, disturbance or breach of peace at the secretariat. All individuals and groups are advised to conduct themselves within the bounds of the law, as security agencies have been duly alerted to take necessary action against violators.

“This positive development reassures members that the recent challenges faced by the Party have indeed been resolved. We therefore call on all aggrieved members to sheathe their swords and embrace unity in the collective interest of the Party.

“The party also expresses its deep appreciation to our leaders and stakeholders for their continued support during this period. In particular, we recognize the leadership and commitment of our national leader, His Excellency, Chief Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, Honorary Minister of the FCT, whose support has been invaluable.

“Together we move forward, stronger, united and more committed to our shared vision.”
