Flight Disruptions, Delayed Refunds: NCAA Summons Air Peace

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has summoned Air Peace to its headquarters for an urgent meeting on Monday 16 March 2026 over unexplained flight disruptions, delayed refunds and other complaints.

According to the NCAA, the airline is also expected to provide responses to an incident involving passengers on the Heathrow-Abuja flight who were diverted via Gatwick-Lagos-Abuja and left stranded in Lagos following a reported return flight due to a broken windscreen.

NCAA Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection Michael Achimugu shut it down Saturday in a post on his X handle @mikeachimugu01.

The NCAA has pledged its commitment to protecting the rights of stakeholders and holding operators to rigorous standards, underlining that it will not tolerate any passenger abandonment.

The post reads: “Air Peace was summoned to NCAA headquarters for an urgent meeting on Monday regarding a number of unexplained disruptions, including complaints received today from passengers on the Heathrow-Abuja flight who were diverted via Gatwick-Lagos-Abuja and left stranded in Lagos following a reported flight turnaround due to a broken windscreen.

“The above, along with cases of delayed refunds, compensation/basic necessities, has triggered the NCAA Consumer Protection Department.

“We will not tolerate any abandonment of paying passengers.

“While the Authority continues to support national carriers, we impose the strictest standards on all operators.

“An investigation will be conducted into these disruptions and appropriate actions will be taken as usual based on the facts of the incident, as set forth in Part 19 of the 2023 NCAA Rules.

“The NCAA, as the sole regulatory agency for civil aviation in Nigeria, remains committed to protecting the rights of all stakeholders.”

In recent years, Nigeria’s airspace has not witnessed any major aviation accidents, but minor emergency landing incidents, flight delays and air strikes have occurred, causing an outcry among passengers.

Airline tickets also continued to rise, a situation airlines blamed on high fuel costs and other problems.
