Recall that the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said that no fewer than 37 deaths have been recorded so far during the flood disaster in Maiduguri-Gixh, which began last Friday.
According to reports, the mortality breakdown showed that no less than seven deaths were recorded last Saturday due to the Maiduguri flood disaster, while another 30 deaths were recorded on Thursday, September 12, 2024.
Speaking about the current flood trend across the country, Director General of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Ms. Zubaida Umar, said that 29 states and 172 local governments have been affected by the floods, which have affected 1,048,312 people, displaced 625,239 and claimed 259 lives.
“This unfortunate and almost unexpected incident requires a coordinated response, hence the convening of this emergency meeting.
“This event is not entirely different from the predictions in this year’s Annual Flood Outlook published by NIHSA, which stated that 33 states and 135 LGAs are in high flood risk areas for the months of July to September 2024, while 19 states and 44 LGAs are in high flood risk areas for the period of October to November.”
