Floods have reportedly destroyed houses and hectares of farmland in Buji Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
The District Chief of Gantsa in Buji, Alh. Sabo disclosed this when a team from the National Disaster Management Agency (NEMA) of the State Disaster Management Agency (SEMA), Jigawa Ministry of Environment, visited several villages affected by the floods.
According to him, “for about three days now, floods have been everywhere, water coming from some areas of Bauch State, especially Itasgadau, coming here through the lower valleys.
“All rice and pearl corn plantations are submerged in floods until now, we do not know the exact estimate of how many plantations and houses were destroyed.

“Also in Gantsa town, many houses are submerged and residents are now staying with their families,” he said.
He urged the Ministry of Environment to build embankments around the area to prevent further incidents.
Also speaking, Dr Haruna Mairiga, Executive Secretary of SEMA in the state, sympathized with the victims.
He said the governor had directed the agency to conduct a damage assessment to help victims.
