The manager of the Nigeria Police Public Relations, the CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, asked for a stronger collaboration between the media and the police in the interest of national security and the trust of the public.

Hundeyin made this appeal during a visit to the Union of Journalists of Nigeria (Nuj), Federal Council of the territory of the capital (FCT).

He explained that his work as a police spokesman would be difficult without a strong support from the media.

“I cannot be successful in this role without the collaboration of the press,” he told Gathering.

Hundeyin used the opportunity to ask for a balanced reportage, underlining that the chain effects of negative stories could damage the public trust to the police.

“The police are strongly based on information,” he said.

“The officers cannot be everywhere at the same time, which is why the advice of people and shared intelligence are so important. But when the audience loses confidence in us, those vital sources of information drains and this puts everyone at risk,” he said.

“For our part, we will continue to do everything that is humanly possible to protect lives and properties,” he said.

He added that insecurity in a part of the country could influence the entire nation.

Hundeyin stressed that her message did not concern the control of the printing, but the encouragement of balanced and responsible reports.

“Today I’m appealing you, help us build confidence,” he said.

He said: “We work together through open communication and the partnership to make the police and the country stronger.”

Hundeyin also promised to respond quickly and fairly to any problem that journalists faced while they did their job, especially in their interactions with police officers.

In response, the president of Nuj Fct, his partner Grace Ike welcomed Hundeyin’s visit and expressed promptly to work closely with him.

“On behalf of the Board Nuj Fct, I welcome you warmly,” he said.

According to her: “We really appreciate this effort from the police to connect directly with the media. Show your commitment to open dialogue and better understanding”.

He said: “The Nuj FCT ​​does not tolerate any form of harassment or intimidation of journalists. Press freedom is a right, not a privilege.

“As journalists, we recognize the key role that the police play in maintaining peace and supporting the law. At the same time, the public needs timely, accurate and honest information to trust the police and other security agencies.

“That’s why our relationship must be built on trust and cooperation.

“Together, we can stop the disinformation spread and promote relationships that helps the company to move forward.”

Comrade Ike promised the support of the Board Nuj FCT ​​in working with the police for the good of the public.

“We are ready to collaborate with you,” he said, adding: “Make sure that the information flow freely and in a responsible way, so that both of our institutions can serve people better”.

Hundeyin was warmly welcomed by the president of Nuj FCT, Grace Ike, together with other members of the Council including secretary Jide Oyekunle, the assistant secretary of Sharon Emonia, the auditor of Rosemary Ukoko-Taga, the financial secretary Henry Daniel Abimiku and Ex-Office 1, Ebriku John.
